About us

Pino and Stefania. Meat runs in the family.

They have always done this work, and generations of their family did it before them. That is where the things you can’t improvise come from: spotting a good cut at a glance, knowing how to treat it, and understanding from the very first question what the person at the table feels like eating. It is this passion that makes every meat tasting in Torre a Mare a one-of-a-kind experience.

Where we call home

Torre a Mare, Bari’s fishing village.

Torre a Mare is a small seaside district just south of Bari. The village grew up around its 16th-century tower, built as a lookout to protect the coast from pirate raids. Over time it became a fishing village, where fishermen hauled their boats ashore in the little harbour at the mouth of Lama Giotta.

The tower, known today as Torre Pelosa, was commissioned by the Viceroy of Naples, Don Pedro de Toledo, as part of a network of coastal towers; of the sixteen still standing along the Bari coast, it is considered the best preserved. The village’s first inhabitants lived in trulli and natural caves, and the area also holds prehistoric remains and traces of an ancient Peucetian harbour.

Today it is a favourite summer destination and a small cultural and food hub for Bari and nearby towns. After a stroll along the harbour, the grill is waiting for you.
